We have a bold vision for Appleby Village: to make this historic site, just minutes from Richmond, into a destination for boutique crafts and artisanal food. With more parking, a new entrance off State Highway 60, planted garden beds enveloping the retail buildings and a summer stall for fruit ice-cream or produce, the development will include 3 outdoor courtyards for al fresco dining. A paved area with seating surrounded by trees leads toward the central grass quad and a raised lawn, flank the largest of the courtyards which will be heated for the cooler evenings. The retail spaces are designed to be able to be divided, providing 3 different footprint sizes; approx 35sq/m, 69 sp/m and 138sq/m. This allows us to accomodate retail tenants of all sizes! Appleby Village is the historic Eyebright building, next door to the Grape Escape cafe. While we plan to extend and build on the site, we love the old building too and acknowledge the place it has in many Nelsonians' hearts. We've compiled a bit about the history of the site and dug up some photos of its unique past too!
